Eliminating malnutrition is a choice

The United Nations World Nutrition Report published in 2018 shows that inadequate diets are defining the current trend in nutrition. In the context of sustainable development goals, it is becoming urgent to reform our food systems so that they no longer simply feed the population but nourish it.

   There is not enough food to get to Zero Hunger situation. Providing food assistance in an emergency can save lives, but the right nutrition at the right time can also help change lives and break the cycle of poverty.

This is why, as the leading organization we providid food assistance to the world’s most vulnerable, NLNH prioritizes nutrition as a core element of its work.

Despite significant progress over recent decades, poor nutrition remains a colossal and universal problem, with one of three people on the planet are affected by some form of malnutrition. Undernutrition – inadequate energy or nutrients – continues to affect more than 150 million children worldwide, while rates of overweight and obesity are also rising in some countries. Conflict and natural disasters are exacerbating the problem.

Malnutrition at its extremes can be a matter of life and death, and in the long term can hold back people and countries, undermining economies and development.

While addressing undernutrition in emergencies has long been our being raison, our focus over the past few years has broadened to encompass all forms of malnutrition.We’ve done so in recognition of the fact that, while seemingly unrelated, these problem stem from the same root causes: poverty, inequality and poor diets.
We concentrate our efforts on the most vulnerable, targeting young children, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and indigenous people (pygmies).
We work to improve the access to proper  nutritious foods, analyze and address the barriers that people faces in consuming healthy diets.
We help build the capacity of NGO to find long-term solutions, and contribute to the broader policy dialogue on food and nutrition security with the national authorities.
With today’s complex and unprecedented challenges, none of organizations can end malnutrition alone. New Life is committed to play an integral role in inter-organizational initiatives and platforms such as the Committee on Action of Nutrition, with the support of local government-led partnership agencies, NGOs, civil society, businesses and academia, as well as local farmers, producers, retailers and communities.

 Secam Orphanage is the home to approximately 90 children. It became apparent to our organization that this orphanage was struggling to feed all the children. We developed a food program to ensure that these children have access to healthy meals everyday.

From an income viewpoint :

  • calculating the average annual income by the total number of the population in our beloved country the Democratic Republic of Congo, we notice directly how much the nutritional living standard is influenced by income. However, the only way to reverse the curve in relation to the income axis or threshold is to have the income structures to balance the “Entrepreneurship and Full Employment” income system.
  • To fight the influence of income New Life Natural Health plans to increase the level of its operating cycle while increasing the number of funded small businesses specially in agriculture in areas with low living standards.

From a production viewpoint :

  • The quality of production becomes a major element in the structure of proteins;
  • The quantities produced must reflect the principles of an adequate diet.
  • New Life Natural Health plans to maximize the level of production.

From the cultivation viewpoint :

  • In our dear beautiful country where the food market often causes the migration of a large concentration of the population .
  • New Life Natural Health aims to expand the food market access in many places .

From the environment viewpoint :

  • Concerning the rural sectors: Sanitation limits donors to high value capital investments;

Concerning infrastructure:

We need the free circulation of food on the roads to facilitate a nutritional balance that meets humanitarian needs.

From the social viewpoint :

  • In general: the social is the important element in the government’s mandate. Our organization finds its importance , while having the favourable means for the creation of small and medium agri-food enterprises or increasing the level of production.
